Todays lifestyles have led to longer and longer periods of sitting (e.g. school, desk work, meetings, tv). And, research is showing that the longer you sit, the slower your metabolism remains even when you later exercise. The Sitting app helps you automatically monitor your sitting time and can alert you when youve been sitting too long. Sitting uses your phones accelerometer and state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms to track your sitting vs. non-sitting or active time.
In addition to sitting vs active time, the app stops tracking activity when you set it on a stable surface (e.g. the desk for charging). The Sitting app can display the minutes sitting as a badge on the icon and prompts you to "Get up and move" after a user-defined time period. It graphs your daily activity over the life of the app and can even share the weeks activity with your friends.
As part of its activity classification, Sitting uses Location Services to periodically check your speed. This continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. Testing Sitting on an iPhone 5s with a full set of other apps has shown a 40-50% reduction in battery life over a typical day. YMMV.
